Tokyoism: Mori Museum

森美術館で11/8まで開催中の「アイ・ウェイウェイ展」へ。名前からしてなんとなく中国のアートの展示会だと思っていたけれど、思いっきり現代アートでした。
ミニマルアートを思わせるインスタレーションも、中国の文化を通して自分の中で消化して再び提示していたり、デザインや手工芸の技術を融合してアートに組み替えかえていたり、作品の背後にあるコンセプトがするすると伝わってきました。例えば、外国で暮らすとその国にとけ込むように自分を組み替えることがあると思うんだけれど、そんな要領で色んなものを融合するのがアイ・ウェイウェイって人はお上手だと思いました。
「1001人の中国人をドイツのカッセルに連れて行く」というプロジェクトの映像は、中国もドイツも色んな人がいて色んな考えを持っていて、その中で社会っていうものは成り立っているんだ、ということが感じられたドキュメンタリーでした。

I went to see the "Ai Wei Wei" exhibition at Mori Museum. When I first heard about the exhibition, I thought it would be all about Chinese art but it was actually contemporary art.
Ai Wei Wei's installations reminded me a lot about minimal art, but he takes a Chinese perspective or design/craft method and alters it. I thought it is similar to when you live abroad, you try to fit into the culture by altering yourself. Ai Wei Wei is good at reinterpreting things.
There is a documentary film about an art project called "Fairytail" which is about taking 1001 Chinese people to Kassel, Germany. It shown one society consists on so many different opinions and it was fascinating to see.

茶の家 / The Tea House
圧縮されたプーアール茶の葉でできた家。良いかおりでした。
The house and the carpet is made of compressed tea leaves. It had nice fragrance.

蛇の天井 / The ceiling of snakes
小学校の布製ランドセルで四河大地震で亡くなった子どもたちのためにつくられたもの。
This snake is made of school bags as a memorial to children who died in the Shichun earthquake.
