TOKYO! is a collection of three vignettes by Michel Gondry, Leos Carax, Bong Joon-ho. I still can't work out whether I like them or not. The films reflected the directors' personalities. But it is risky to make a film in a language that they don't understand. It didn't always work.
However, Bong Joon-ho's "Shaking Tokyo" was very beautiful. It captures the feeling of summer in Tokyo really well.

Sex And The City

I went to see Sex And The City today. I have been wanting to see this film for a long time. The four girls were as funny as usual and their dresses were breathtaking. I couldn't even blink for 150 mins! I hope I am as full of life as they are when I turn 40...

Kiyosumi Shirakawa

I visited the galleries in Kiyosumi Shirakawa but many of them were closed due to obon summer holidays. However, "Chim↑Pom | 友情か友喰いか友倒れか/BLACK OF DEATH" at hiromi yoshii is worth seeing.
The artist is living in the 1m x 2.5m cage with a real crow. Unless a doctor orders him to stop, he will continue till 30/Aug. They eat rubbish that the artist found in Shibuya or some food given by the artist's friends. "Today is the fourth day of the exhibition" the gallery staff said. If you want to see it, you'd better hurry up!

Cheburashka

I went to watch Russian animation Cheburashka at Cinema Angelica in Shibuya. I thought it would be for children at first but it was very deep and meant a lot. I loved all the characters in the animation.

Fireworks

I went to see the fireworks on the banks of Arakawa river. I could see a lot of lightning in the distance and it was coming towards us. And it started raining just after the fireworks had begun. But the fireworks don't get affected by rain so I could see it holding umbrella.
Arakawa has good view of the river and the Shuto expressway. And banks are wide so there are plenty of spaces to sit down. I really liked it so will go back next year.

Art Tower Mito

Julian Opie exhibition is held at Art Tower Mito which is about 2hrs by bus from Tokyo. The building is designed by Arata Isozaki, there is a 100m high metal tower next to it. Today Mito city was holding the Mito Komon Festival so a lot of people were on the street celebrating it.
Opie's work looks simple, cross between pop and minimalism. There were some moving pictures and some pieces influenced by Japanese Ukiyoe. It was pity that some of the work was temporary stopped. I enjoyed the whole space, some of his work is drawn on the wall of the museum and window.
